From my gardening experience, I have noticed that dandelions tend to flower a lot during spring and also re-flower during the fall season.
So, if you are planning to spray them with herbicide, it is best that you do this when the dandelions are in bloom. To be honest, there’s no better time than this to spray the dandelions and eradicate them from your lawn.
All gardeners will tell you that dandelion blooms are heaviest during the spring. So, after they flower, all the nutrients are taken up, and they are most likely to be very weak. I would recommend that you consider putting herbicide on the dandelions right after spring is over.
If the dandelion growth is not too thick, you can even implement the hand-pulling method instead of using harmful chemicals that might damage other plants.
When you are opting for a post-emergent herbicide, apply it right after the dandelions germinate. If you ask me, I think that the best time to spray herbicide on dandelions is during the month of September.
However, if you are targeting the spring bloom, the ideal time to eliminate the dandelions is during the month of May, when the temperature is as high as 60 degrees Fahrenheit.
Whenever you decide to apply herbicide to deal with dandelions, make sure that there is not much wind and the herbicides do not get blown away. It is also best that you check the weather forecast to ensure that you do not spray herbicide right before it rains.
If you are trying to get rid of dandelions, waiting till winter or fall can be too late. Generally, during the fall season, dandelions tend to shed all their leaves to conserve water and prepare for winter. So, in winter, there will hardly be any leaves that you can spray.
As mentioned earlier, spray the herbicides right after spring, when the dandelions are in full bloom. They are the weakest at this point in time and can be eliminated easily.
