An Overview Of Craftsman Lawn Products

My husband and I seldom ask for help with construction work, owing to my large assortment of tools.

But sometimes both him and I have to scratch heads to choose the right product. Since I do everything myself, it's essential to purchase a tool, offering durability, reliability, and quality output. And immediately, the brand that comes to mind is Craftsman.

But how did it all begin, and how has Craftsman managed to cement its place in the market? There's a popular saying that "Rome wasn't built in a day," and something similar happened with Craftsman. So, I thought of taking you back in time to relish the history of this brand.

I'll also discuss the relevance of modern Craftsman products, how they have changed over time, and whether they’re suitable investment options. Hi! I'm Stacy Smith, and today I'll be providing an overview of Craftsman lawn products

An Overview Of Craftsman Lawn Products

A Brief History

In 1927, Craftsman tools first came into being, following the vision of one gentleman, Arthur Barrows. Barrows was part of Sears, the company that promoted him to the head of the hardware department. What followed was meticulous planning and a single-minded desire to create tools that would stand out among other brands.

But first, he needed a name, and he settled on Craftsman, used by the Marion-Craftsman tool company. He paid the company $500 and requested permission to use the same name, to which they agreed.

So, Sears soon started manufacturing with the Craftsman name, and the first set of tools that bore this name was a line of saws. A couple of years later, in 1929, another remarkable man, namely Tom Dunlap, joined the company with a vision to revolutionize the market.

It was Barrows who appointed him, and together they set out to bring a change. Dunlap realized that the company could not survive merely by catering to their original clients, the farmers. Instead, he felt America had moved into the automobile age for which bulky hammers, wrenches, and soft screwdrivers weren't suitable.

Therefore, Tod Dunlap started designing chrome plating to improve the color, finish, and design of different products. However, Arthur Barrows was skeptical at first and didn't see the point in making attractive tools that would wear out eventually. But when sales doubled six times in merely two years, he had to admit that Dunlap's idea had paid off.

This paved the platform for Craftsman's modern line of products.

Evolution Of Craftsman Tools

Craftsman has consistently been expanding its market, producing a plethora of goods for several purposes. But where did it all start? In 1929, the brand brought a new line of saws and electric drills, described as powerful, sturdy, and well-balanced. As a result, users found them easy to use, much like modern products.

Then in 1932, Craftsman wrenches started attracting attention, thanks to the use of Vanadium steel. This made the wrench lighter but increased its strength by 200%, highlighting its efficiency. While Craftsman wrenches grew in popularity, the brand released low-cost land mowers in 1934, driving sales even further.

As the years rolled on, the brand made a name in unconventional circles when aircraft schools used its products for training purposes. However, the brand's excellence was on full display with the introduction of the 6.25-inch circular saw. This tool played a major part during the housing revolution in America and helped ease the demand for a powerful yet user-friendly device.

Moving on, the Craftsman riding-mower made its first appearance in 1953, followed by the 5-in-1 power workshop a year later. Both these tools proved highly versatile, allowing users to complete numerous tasks to improve the standard of life.

In that regard, the 60s saw one of the most prolific decades for the brand as it released the first mower with a covered engine and the quick-release ratchet wrench. These two tools were far ahead of their time and helped ease stress, delivering better performance.
