Are you on the lookout for bringing more flair into your home? Then adding succulents to your indoor or outdoor garden can get the job done.

Succulents have captivated me, owing to their variety in colors, shapes, and characteristics. And when I saw them at my friend’s house, I knew that I had to get some for my home. So, I decided to look for beautiful and quality planters that score high on functionality and looks.

Now, you can use an old plastic pot to grow them, but it doesn’t deliver a visually aesthetic look. And selecting the best pots for succulents can get overwhelming.

So, I, Stacy Smith, an avid gardener myself, researched some of the best options available on the market and reviewed them for my readers. Read along and choose a model that fits your needs.

Top 5 Pots For Succulents

1. ZOUTOG Succulent Pots

ZOUTOG Succulent Pots

ZOUTOG is committed to developing high-quality materials to help with your gardening tasks so that you always stay closer to nature and experience the joy. These classy-looking pots by the brand look great in your indoor space and ensure that the succulents have a suitable growing space.

Product Highlights

The versatility of finishes is the most riveting aspect of these ceramic planters. They have a sleek and elegant design, which combines with a clean pattern to suit most modern home decors, coffee tables, and even office tables. These come in a set of two and set a unique example in terms of design.

Each pot has a drainage hole at the bottom, which prevents the risk of overwatering. They can deliver a new and fresh appeal to your space, and you can grow several succulents with short roots in a single container. Just make sure to leave at least a half-inch of space between each plant for them to grow.

They come with a complimentary bamboo draining tray designed to collect drips from plants. Besides, the size of planters is ideal for growing other plants like cactus, air plants, or Tillandsias.

What's There To Like About It?

If you’re looking for an ideal pot that grows succulents well and also looks good in an interior garden, this can be the one for you. I loved the serene look of these ceramic pots, and they harmonize well with my interior décor.

Also, the drain hole and removable drip tray ensure that I get rid of excess water, so I don’t worry much about maintaining the plants.

What's There Not To Like About It?

Although the planters are ideal for most succulent plants like air plants, they can be a bit shallow for snake or aloe vera plants. These plants have comparatively longer roots and stems, which the pots may not be able to accommodate well. So, if you prefer growing big succulents, you may want to look for something else.

These planters by Double Zed bring a lively touch to your indoor garden through their minimalist design that complements the beauty of your vibrant succulents. Made of high-grade ceramic, these pots are breathable and porous, making them an ideal choice for indoor plants.

Product Highlights

Brighten your day with low-maintenance succulent plants that add a burst of color to your home decor. However, growing these plants can get tricky, so be careful when watering them. And that’s where these functional and beautiful ceramic pots come in.

Their ceramic build is porous and breathable that allows the air to circulate freely. Besides, the water drainage hole and the drip tray drain out the extra water. It, in turn, helps you maintain the right ambience for your plants.

The classy-looking pots can be a perfect gift to plant lovers on any occasion. Plus, they are available in three different sizes, viz., 4 x 2 ⅝ inches, 5 x 2 ⅝ inches, and 6 x 2 ⅝ inches, so you can plant different types of plants in them.

What's There To Like About It?

These pots are similar to the ZOUTOG succulent pots in terms of the design and materials used. Aside from their elegant looks, the drainage system that maintains an optimum water supply to the plant makes these pots quite the deal.

I gifted these to my gardener friend, who was delighted to receive them. With three-sized pots, he grew different plants and unleashed his creativity to keep them in unique arrangements, which delivered an aesthetic look.

What's There Not To Like About It?

The only minor disadvantage of this product is its high price, which may turn off some users, particularly first-time gardeners. Furthermore, at this price point, you only get three units, whereas other offers include 6-8 units. It also made me hesitant to try these, but I can't help but be drawn in by the beautiful design.

3. COLOAPT Succulent Plant Pots

COLOAPT Succulent Plant Pots

These special succulent plant pots have unique patterns and bright colors to add a vibrant look to your space. They can be kept anywhere in your room, thanks to the compact size on offer. Plus, the drainage hole removes excess water from the soil to facilitate optimum air circulation.

Product Highlights

The Coloapt succulent plant pots come in a combination of 6 units, and each one has a different pattern. They are perfect for decorating your dining table, balcony, desk table, room, or office. The unique and beautiful appearance of the planters makes them an ideal holiday gift for your friends and families who love planting.

Moreover, they measure about 3.1 inches and are perfect for growing little succulents like herbs and cacti. The drainage hole eliminates extra water from the soil to maintain the perfect water supply and airflow. Plus, the bamboo drainage tray holds the water drips, which you can remove and clean easily.

What’s more, the bottom of the tray prevents scratches, helping you to keep the surface below free from unwanted marks.

What's There To Like About It?

First and foremost, the package comes with 6 pots with the same number of bamboo trays, which gives me enough planting options. I have planted some baby cactuses in these pots to put on my outdoor shelf and desk table, and they look absolutely beautiful.

Aside from that, I was impressed with their well-made and sturdy design, as well as the drainage holes that keep my cactuses healthy.

What's There Not To Like About It?

Although the color is long-lasting, these are not actual paint jobs, which is somewhat disappointing. It’s more like a stick and peel paper applied, and a sealant is placed over it to protect it. So, the sticker might be prone to peeling or tearing if exposed too much to the sun or rain.

Pros and Cons of COLOAPT Succulent Plant Pots

Pros

  • High-quality pots
  • Ideal for gifting
  • Suitable for growing small succulents
  • Free bamboo draining tray

4. PTHANN Succulent Pots

PTHANN Succulent Pots

Another great option for planting your succulent plants is these pots from PTHANN. They come in a set of 6, so you can plant more succulent in one go. Furthermore, the all-white exterior of these planters complements most greens, helping you create an aesthetic little corner indoors or outdoors.

Product Highlights

This super value planter set from PTHANN comes in a set of 6 ceramic pots, and they look amazing when you’re putting them together to form a shape or pattern. Additionally, the separate bamboo drainage trays for each pot are provided, which catches the water drained from plants. The minimalistic pattern and white ceramic glaze of these planters make them a perfect gifting option as well.

Due to their small size of 3 inches, you can place them anywhere in your room like on the desktop, windowsill, office, or even outdoors in the garden. Moreover, the porous yet durable ceramic material will keep the plant always fresh. And the drainage holes will prevent the risk of root rot due to excess moisture deposit

Last but not least, these pots come with a guarantee, so you can get in touch with the brand in case of any issues or manufacturing defects.

What's There To Like About It?

These minimalistically designed planters have many things to like about. Firstly, the glazed ceramic look gave my room a holistic and classy look. I have been using these planters for the last 2-3 years, and still they look good as new, thanks to their durability and sturdiness.

Lastly, the bamboo drainage trays help keep the surface beneath free from water damages and are pretty easy to clean.

What's There Not To Like About It?

I didn’t like the fact that bamboo trays are non-waterproof, and the drainage system is also slower than some of the other planters. So, you should be careful while watering the plants, as overwatering can be a significant issue. Remember that succulents are prone to dying with excess watering.

Pros and Cons of PTHANN Succulent Pots

  • White glaze look
  • Compact size
  • Bamboo trays are easy to clean
  • Long-lasting build

Cons

  • Bamboo trays are not waterproof

5. LAERJIN Succulent Pots

LAERJIN Succulent Pots

These 6 planters by LAERJIN are a must-have if you want beautifully painted units for growing succulents and brightening up your uninteresting and dull-looking window sills. All of them are made of high-quality ceramic, and each unit features a drainage hole to allow your plants to breathe optimally.

Product Highlights

The vivid colored pots and the modern minimalist design renders a unique look to these units and sets them apart from the other products on my list. They are suitable for decorating your desktop, kitchen, office, bedroom, and bathroom.

Made with high-grade ceramic with long-lasting paint, you can use these pots year after year, which indeed makes them an ideal choice for your indoor garden. Apart from that, they measure about 4-inches wide, which can fit in most succulent plants.

Like other planters on my list, these are also equipped with drainage holes that drain the excess water and ensure your succulent receives adequate water to grow. Additionally, they come with durable bamboo drainage trays that collect the drained water, making it easy to dispose of later.

What's There To Like About It?

The most interesting aspect of these pots is their minimalistic yet vibrant design. These are the almost perfect size for my succulent plants and come in a set of 6, which makes room for quite a few succulents. Each of them is differently colored, and I can keep them separately in different rooms or keep them together to create a charming design.

Plus, I don’t have to worry about adding more water to the roots, as they drain the extra water through the hole at the bottom.

What's There Not To Like About It?

The exterior of the pots can’t be painted on, which isn’t very concerning per se. However, the major issue with these units is that there wasn’t enough space in them for growing multiple large plants, so I prefer using them for planting the smaller succulents.

Pros and Cons of LAERJIN Succulent Pots

Pros

  • Beautiful glazed painted exterior
  • Drainage holes
  • Comes with drainage trays
  • Minimalistic design suits most decors

Cons

  • Cannot be painted on

Buyers Guide

That brings me to the end of my reviews for the five best pots for succulents. I hope my detailed review has helped make you a purchase decision.

However, if you are still beating your head overtaking the right pick, let me help. From my experience, I can tell you that there are certain factors that should be kept in mind when selecting an appropriate planter for growing your succulents. So, let’s understand them in detail.

1. Drainage

If you’ve thoroughly read through my reviews, you’d understand that I have emphasized the drainage hole located at the bottom of each pot. And trust me- having one will make your life much easier, and your plants will turn out to be healthy when their roots receive ample water.

Furthermore, most of the pots that I have reviewed come with free bamboo drainage trays. They are important to collect the drained water, which would otherwise drip on the surface underneath, leaving unwanted watermarks. So make sure to read the product description to ensure that your preferred choice comes with these drip trays.

2. Material

The next thing you need to consider is the material the pot is made of. Generally, these planters are made of plastic, ceramic, or metal. But if you ask me, I’d say go for ceramic pots, which look good and foster the healthy growth of plants. Plus, the porous nature of the material ensures greater airflow to the roots.

However, I’d recommend not to keep ceramic pots in direct sunlight, as it will heat up, which is not ideal for your succulents. Besides, they tend to be fragile, so keep your children and pets away from them.

Other than ceramic, plastic is a popular option for growing succulents. The advantage of plastic over ceramic is that it isn’t fragile and is often lighter. However, these pots are not as breathable as the ceramic ones, and they may cause water to stand, which can be an issue.

Nevertheless, this shouldn't be an issue if you’re using well-draining soil and have a drainage hole in the pot. Plastic pots come in various colors and shapes, making them fun to shop for.

Wood can also be an unorthodox yet exciting option for your succulents. Last year, I got a driftwood planter, which was more eye-catching than a traditional planter. An added advantage of this material is that it can sit in the direct sun yet stay cool by retaining water. However, the material might not be suitable for indoor planting.

3. Texture And Color

Now you’ve gained an idea of which material is best for your planter, the fun begins! At this point, you can take two different approaches to select one for yourself. You can either opt for  colored and textured pots or can purchase a white pot and color it yourself.

I prefer decorating the gardening items myself, so I purchased a set of six white ceramic pots and painted them with vibrant colors. These colors complemented the room where they are kept in, and the plain colors helped the greens to really stand out.

4. Size

Sometimes, it gets difficult to tell which pot size you’d need for the arrangements and succulents. As a thumb rule, I recommend you to leave a half-inch space between the edge of your pot and succulents so that they have adequate space to grow.

If you’re planting a single succulent pot, a 2.5 or 3.5-inch pot is generally the right choice. Otherwise, if you want to plant multiple succulents in your arrangement, select one with a larger size to ensure that all the plants have adequate space to grow.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. Are ceramic pots better than plastic pots for growing succulents?

The answer is yes. Ceramic pots facilitate adequate air movement and water flow, thereby stimulating healthy root growth and healthier plants. While plastic pots hold more water, they promote waterlogging, which can cause the succulents to die.

Q2. Are drainage trays glued to the bottom or can I remove them?

These drainage trays are removable and not glued. So you can remove them whenever you want to.

Q3. Can I place these pots outside?

Of course, you can as long as you’re not placing them under direct rainfall. The drainage trays can resist humidity but will get damaged if exposed to rain for a more extended period.

Q4. Can I paint on white ceramic pots?

I don’t see the reason why you can’t. Use any colored spray paint for ceramic and viola.

Q5. Will warm white or bright white pots look good in my indoor garden?

Yes, they do, as most of them are slightly off-white and are not very glossy. The one I have has tiny air bubbles, and I painted over them to create some unique patterns.

Q6. Can succulents live and grow in planters without holes?

Yes, they can grow and live healthy, even in pots without holes. But you should know how to take care of these plants correctly.

Q7. What is the perfect size for a succulent pot?

The ideal pot size should be 10% more than the plant size. Likewise, its depth must not be 10% more than the plant itself. But if you’re confused between deep and shallow pots, I recommend you go for shallow pots.

Q8. What kind of paints can I use for these pots?

You should definitely go for spray paints. They are easy to use and deliver long-lasting results.

My Final Recommendation

I hope you’ve enjoyed going through my detailed review-based guide to choosing an ideal planter for your indoor garden. As soon as I had one in my house, I knew it was a perfect choice.

As researchers say, having a succulent plant can fill your home with positive energy, which is one of the reasons I went for it. Not only that, but I was also able to give my dull tabletop a gorgeous look.

With that, it’s time for me to sign off. But before I go, I’d like to tell you about my favorites from the list.

If you’re looking for classy yet minimalistic  designed succulent pots, then the ZOUTOG succulent pots are the perfect option. But if you want something more vibrant and bright, then the COLOAPT succulent plant pots are worth bringing it.

I’ll see you another day. Till then, take care!
