Do Crocs Shrink In The Sun?

If you are wondering whether crocs shrink in the sun, the answer is affirmative. They do shrink when exposed to hot and humid conditions.

The majority of users find it out through some bitter experience, and the same happened with me.

I wore my crocs to the poolside and lazed in the water all through the afternoon. When it was time to go back, I realized that the crocs that used to be slightly loose on my feet started to fit me perfectly all of a sudden

In fact, I could feel a little pressure on my toes because of the tightness. To be honest, I was thrown aback by this little incident because it was something I had never heard about. Later, I fired up my laptop and sat down to research why this happened.

Hello guys, I am Stacy Smith, and I am back with yet another simple guide on a much-requested topic - “do crocs shrink in the sun?” Today I’ll tell you all about crocs, their sizes, and maintenance in detail.

Let’s get started!

A Little About Crocs

Founded by George Boedecker and Lyndon Hanson, and designed by a Canada-based company Foam Creations, crocs are foam clog slip-on footwear.

Let me tell you another less known interesting fact about these shoes. Crocs were not always the durable and funky shoes you now identify them as; rather, initially, they were developed as boating shoes.

The first design developed by Crocs, known as “Beach,” was launched back in 2002 and sold about two hundred pairs. Ever since then, the company has sold well over seven hundred and twenty million pairs and is loved by everyone.

Crocs are especially famous among teens, but you can spot people from every age group sporting these versatile and durable shoes.

Why Do Crocs Shrink In The Sun?

Crocs used to be foam-based earlier, but not anymore because now they are manufactured using croslite. Croslite is neither rubber nor plastic, in fact, it is a resinous material that molds itself as per the wearer’s feet.

Croslite has a few outstanding unique properties, including being shockproof and evenly distributing the weight across the soles. It is also a great absorbent, imbibing forty percent better than other footwear. This high absorbance consequently makes it more susceptible to humidity and heat.

When the material absorbs heat radiation, its polymeric structure alters a bit, allowing the chains to pack tightly together. Hence, it shrinks from its usual size and something similar happens under damp and humid conditions.

How To Unshrink Your Crocs?

Up until now, I was discussing only the basics of the footwear and the problems related to it, but let’s move on to the fun part- the solution

Since crocs are quite flexible and easy to change in size, it is simple to unshrink them too. You just need to follow a few steps to get your shoes back to their normal size. The most effective way to do that is by washing or soaking them in boiled water and reshaping.

The hot water will loosen out the structure, making it vulnerable to shape and size alterations. When your crocs are nicely drenched and warm, wear them for a while and walk around. A little side note: soak the shoes for one minute only and don’t wear them immediately after taking them out.

If you want your crocs to stretch out even more, then I suggest wearing two to three pairs of socks, one on top of the other, before reshaping. Sounds crazy, I know, but it is very effective in increasing the size.

Furthermore, you can unshrink your shoes by blowing them with a hairdryer for two to three minutes. Or simply put them in the dryer itself and allow the moist air to alter the structure.

However, these methods are not a hundred percent reliable and they might work at times, but sometimes they won’t. Not to mention, different pairs are produced in different batches, with slight changes in the formulation, which affects their size too.

How To Look After Your Crocs?

Crocs are famous worldwide and loved by people because of their versatility, durability, and low maintenance. They are weatherproof and are unaffected by rain or snow, and as a result, they don’t need much maintenance.

Moreover, their smooth surface doesn’t trap much dust, allowing it to slide off. And even if they get dirty because of murk or puddles, you can simply wash them with plain water.

Only a few preventive measures need to be taken for preserving your crocs in top quality. Keep your croslite shoes out of direct sunlight, and do not leave them out in the heat for long.

Additionally, water doesn’t have a negative effect on them but moisture can alter the size a little, so be careful about that.

Safety Measures

Despite being comfortable and easy to walk in, crocs have been involved in quite a few accidents, especially with kids.

Please be careful while you are on the escalator as there have been multiple mishaps of these shoes getting trapped in the escalator teeth and causing injuries. Wear crocs as much as you want, but please avoid them if you need to use the escalator.

Final Words

Easy-going and comfy, crocs are ideal for wearing while running errands, traveling, going to school, or any low-key outings. I personally adore them! They are so low maintenance and look cool with most of my everyday outfits.

However, these shoes do run the risk of shrinking if exposed to the sun for long, but most of the time, it is reversible. I covered all the key points you need to know about unshrinking your crocs, and you are now prepared to deal with such a situation.

Alright you guys, that’s it for this guide on everything related to crocs. I hope you had a fun time reading it and got to know something new.

I’ll see you next time. Take care!
