How Long Should Trimmer Line Last

A weed trimmer does a fantastic job when it comes to getting rid of weeds and other unpleasant growth in the garden.

But unfortunately, it is not the most robust lawn care equipment available. And that’s why lawn care enthusiasts often wonder, “how long should trimmer line last?” Well, to know the answer, you need to keep reading my article to the end as I’ve explained everything you need to know about trimmer lines.

So, without further ado, let’s get started.

How Long Should The Trimmer Line Last?

It mainly depends on the quality of the trimmer line that you are using. The higher the quality, the longer it is expected to last. However, on average, a trimmer line should last about 3-6 months if you cut the weeds every other week.

Note that you should replace the string spool after six months as overusing it could put it at risk of breaking. Also, if you don’t replace it after the specified period, the ends will fray, resulting in the trimmer not being as effective as before.

How To Increase The Lifespan Of A Trimmer Line?

If you want to prevent the trimmer line from getting brittle sooner than you would like, I recommend following these steps:

1. Fill A Bucket Of Water

First, fill a bucket of water and ensure that the temperature is the same as the room temperature. Keep in mind that if it’s hot, it might damage the line, making your efforts futile, so be careful.

2. Submerge The Spool

Next, you need to submerge the spool into the water. This will moisten the line and make it more flexible and robust. So, no more worrying about the edges fraying and the ends snapping.

3. Wait For At Least A Day

After that, I would suggest leaving the trimmer line in the bucket for at least a day, if not more, giving it the required time to become strong. This will help increase the lifespan of your trimmer.

4. Dry The Trimmer Line

Now, it’s time to dry the trimmer line. Make sure it doesn’t drip once you attach it to the weeder. If it does, it’ll create a mess and could even damage the product, which I’m sure is not something that you would want. Therefore, dab it with a towel properly before attaching it to the weed trimmer.

5. Test It

It’s important to test the soaked trimmer line before using it elsewhere. This will help you figure out where to put the guard.

Conclusion

Hopefully, by now, you have got the answer to how long should the trimmer line last.

Let’s face it, trimmer lines are just not equipped to last for years, but that doesn’t mean it should break in a month or two. So, make sure you soak it in water to make it stronger and increase its lifespan. Also, remember to use a trimmer line compatible with your device.

With that note, it’s a wrap. Until next time, stay safe!
