How To Use Advion Cockroach Gel Bait

Sometimes, I feel that the world would be a better place without pests.

Now, don’t get me wrong- I know every organism has a crucial role to play in the ecological cycle. But when you’re dealing with pest infestation, all these logical thoughts go for a toss.

About a year back, I was sharing my home with cockroaches. And by the time I spotted their presence, they had already made colonies in my basement, drains, and store-room cupboards.

Although I employed a lot of effective techniques to prevent the entry of more cockroaches, I still had to get rid of the existing ones. While searching for the best pest control service, my husband came across a product that was widely preferred by professionals - the Advion cockroach gel bait.

Impressed with the reviews, he decided to try it before calling the professionals. And boy, did it work wonders! Not only that, but the application was also very simple. So, when my son asked me to help with the application, I decided to document the steps for him and my readers.

Hi! I’m Stacy, and today, I have curated this guide on how to use Advion cockroach gel bait. Let’s start!

What Is The Advion Cockroach Gel Bait?

In case you’re still unaware, let me briefly describe the Advion cockroach gel bait and its advantages. It’s essentially a non-repellent (not detectable for pests) and a high-performing product that targets almost all varieties of cockroaches, like the American, Australian, German, oriental, brown, and the smokey brown species.

The reason behind its success lies in the proprietary formula, consisting of a mix of effective ingredients and an active ingredient (Indoxacarb) that attracts cockroaches like nothing else. Now, the enzymes present in the cockroach’s body break down this ingredient into a separate molecule containing insecticidal elements.

However, the “activation process” isn’t as effective in other non-target bodies, so there are fewer chances of them getting affected by the bait. In fact, this makes it a popular choice among professional pest control services and homeowners alike.

When a cockroach returns to its colony after consuming the bait, it will spread the ingredients, killing as many as 54 more coaches in about 24 hours.

Other than that, here are some other beneficial features:

  • Can be used both indoors and outdoors
  • Formulated for commercial, residential, and industrial sites
  • Offers speed and wide coverage
  • Controls gel-bait averse roaches

How To Apply The Bait?

Before applying the bait, make sure to thoroughly clean the areas where you plan to apply it. For instance, sweep the floors of all the rooms, wipe down countertops and tables, clean pet bowls, and allow sinks and bathrooms to dry completely. Also, keep food and water away from these areas as they may divert the roach’s attention from the bait

Each package comes with four 30-gram bait syringes, one plunger, and twin applicator tips. To apply the gel, all you have to do is replace the blue cap on the syringes with the plunger and application tip. Or, you may transfer the product into a bait gel gun for easy application.

Gently press the plunger (or the trigger of the gel gun) to release a small gel dot and apply it directly on the desired surface. Ideally, the bait should be “placed” in cupboards, drawers, cracks and crevices of doors and windows, behind toilets, around the sinkhole, and all such areas, serving as entry points and shelters for cockroaches.

Keep in mind that the dots should not be larger than ¼ inches or half an ounce in diameter (about the size of a small pea). Never apply the gel in large dots in continuous lines as cockroaches have small mouths and will invariably avoid such “accumulations.”

The brand recommends applying approximately one to three dots every 10 feet for heavy infestation and three to five dots every 10 feet for light to medium infestation. Although a single round of application should last up to three months, check the areas for retouches, especially in case of heavy infestation.

Where Shouldn’t The Gel Be Applied?

You should avoid applying any gel bait in areas with high heat or steam as the product will evaporate even before the cockroaches can consume it. Likewise, porous surfaces will expose the gel to air currents and dry it out quicker than usual. So, if you have recently applied an insecticide, wait for its effects to die down before applying the bait.

On a side note, the brand recommends using this gel bait with other gel baits as part of a “rotation strategy.” This is done so that the cockroaches don’t become resistant to the ingredients found in this product.

In ideal conditions, the Advion cockroach gel bait should last for about 5 years, so you don’t have to rush through its application to finish it before expiration.

Another thing to keep in mind is that since this gel works only on roaches post-consumption, it won’t affect their eggs. This means that even if all the existing cockroaches are killed, there may be thousands of eggs inside your home, waiting to become the “next generation invaders.”

Hence, keep an eye on their potential hideouts and employ other effective treatments to get rid of the eggs. But in doing so, make sure they don’t contain similar repellent ingredients as those may negate the effect of the gel.

Conclusion

At the end of this guide, I only hope you get rid of these cringe-worthy critters at the earliest!

And as far as the effectiveness of the Advion gel bait is concerned, you can rely on it for top-notch results, provided you follow the application instructions minutely. Hence, keep both the do’s and don’ts in mind.

Furthermore, if you have any questions regarding the ingredients or usage, don’t shy away from contacting the brand’s helpline, the details of which can be easily found online.

I’ll see you another day. Till then, stay safe!
