That’s what my father used to tell me whenever he used to tune in to country radio stations back in the day. Growing up, I was never really into country music because most songs were about either falling in love or driving a truck in a small town.
However, with the rise of exceptional country artists like John Denver and Kenny Rogers in the seventies, I started appreciating the true art of country music. Not only did these artists sing about love, but various other things as well, such as pain, feelings of despair, and valuable life lessons. Soon, I realized why my father loved country music.
Last week, over some tea, my father and I were talking about the importance of country music in this day and age when I decided to write this article. Hi! I am Stacy Smith, and today I will be talking about the most listened to country radio stations in America.
So, without further ado, let’s jump right in!
These are some of the most listened-to country radio stations in the US.
Often referred to as “Today’s Best Country,” this Washington DC-based country radio station is owned by iheartMedia and home to the critically acclaimed radio show, the Bobby Bones Show. It has been playing the country genre since 1977 and is also popular for its 98-minute commercial-free ride.
This radio station is my personal favorite because it is based out of Texas. It plays top 40 country music but is mainly popular for its morning show, the Hawkeye, and other podcasts. I highly suggest checking it out.
Nash FM is one of New York’s most listened-to country radio stations. It features a broad selection of sister stations that broadcast signals from the top of the Empire State Building. Even though it has had a few changes in ownership in the past couple of years, it remains true to the country genre.
Go Country is a California-based country radio station dedicated to playing country hits, talk shows, and on-air contests. It is one of the leading country radio stations not just in California but in the entire US.
What’s more, it’s a bit of an old-school station as it mainly plays traditional country music. As of today, it has over 1,200,800 listeners.
This station is based out of Boston and is considered to be one of the hottest country radio stations because of presenters like Jonathan Wier and Ayla Brown. Over here, you will get a wide mix of both the latest country hits and the classic ones. Plus, it is famous for organizing various contests, which listeners take part in actively.
US*99 is quite famous among the youth as it is available on FM radio as well as online. Even though it’s based in Chicago, you can stream it online from all across the country and listen to the latest country tunes.
The headquarters of the Wolf is located in Dallas, Texas, which is a little over an hour and a half drive from my place. It is popular for combining country music with talk show segments and podcasts, making it one of the fastest-growing country radio stations in the country.
Not to brag, but my state, Texas, is a major hub of country music in the US. And this Texas-based radio station is another popular one that you ought to check out if you are from Houston or the surrounding areas.
Perhaps, the best thing about The Bull is that it can be listened to live on FM radio and over the Internet as well.
Owned by the Cox Media Group, the New 93Q, is yet another Texas-based radio station that is dedicated to playing the best country music but with a commercial touch. It has a very large listener base and serves all the parts of Greater Houston.
Lastly, there is the 92.5 XTU, which is based in Philadelphia. It is owned by the Beasley Broadcast group, and is well-known for playing country music and various talk shows. Believe it or not, it used to be an alternative rock radio station until the 80s.
Okay, now that I have talked about the most listened-to country radio stations, let me tell you why you should listen to country music in the first place.
