How To Open Ryobi Weed Eater Head

The Ryobi Weed Eater is one of the best garden trimmers on the market, offering excellent performance at a great price.

Among its several useful features, the replaceable head is one of the best. However, I understand that some of you might find it confusing how to open the head of the trimmer.

That’s why I’ve compiled this in-depth guide to help you out. So, without further ado, let’s get started.

Opening The Ryobi Weed Eater Head

1. Positioning The Weed Eater Correctly

The first step is to position the Ryobi Weed Eater correctly. The safest method is to place the weed eater on its side on a flat surface after disconnecting the power. This position will make it more comfortable for you to open it.

For experienced users familiar with such tools, turn the weed eater upside down so that the head of the trimmer is at the top and the handle is at the bottom.

2. Loosening The Trimmer Bump Head

For first-time users, it is essential to identify and understand the different parts of the trimmer. Once you are able to do so, the next step involves locating the bump head, known as the bump knob, and loosening it.

You may need to use pliers for greater leverage in case the head is tightly locked. And after removing the bump head, keep it aside carefully.

3. Removing The Inner String Reel

The string reel is basically a string that lies within the cutting head. Take the string out very cautiously, ensuring that it does not fall out, and keep it aside carefully as well.

4. Removing The Weed Eater Head

Removing the head should be done very carefully. In the case of a gas-powered Ryobi Weed Eater, you will need to rotate the head of the trimmer a few times until the notch of the flange washer is aligned with its slot.

Then, insert a straight thin metal rod into the slot, which will prevent the shaft from moving, thereby blocking its movement. You can even use a Ryobi blocking tool which is available at hardware stores.

After this, the bottom section of the weed eater will become completely exposed.

5. Final Step

Use one hand to hold the housing of the shaft firmly while using the other hand to carefully pull open the cutting head. Usually, the cutting head lies on a hex nut, and you need to follow this procedure to unscrew the nut safely and separate the head.

Conclusion

It is not very difficult to learn how to open Ryobi weed eater head. You just need to be careful while handling the weed eater and ensure that all safety measures are properly followed.

With that said, it is now time for me to sign off. Until next time!
