Flowers That Start With The Letter Y

Growing up I always knew my mom was a little different. She had this really big backyard garden that she loved to take care of. One day when I was about 10, she showed me her favorite flowers in the whole world and told me they all started with the letter Y. She also said that there are some other great letters too like J, K, and X but those weren't her favorites!

Yarrow

Yarrow is a flowering perennial herbaceous plant that can grow up to 2 feet tall. The rhizomatous root system has made it very prevalent throughout the world. It is also commonly known as “woundwort” because of its healing effects on wounds. The leaves are finely dissected and have a fuzzy quality to them, this is due to glands that are found in the leaf axils which produce a sticky resin that covers the surface of the leaves. These flowers have been used for medicinal purposes in many cultures but have been primarily used in Ayurveda, an Indian medical system that uses natural remedies.

Yellow Archangel

The yellow archangel is a type of perennial that can grow up to 2 feet tall. The flowers are yellow and have dark red centers. It also produces small leaves that are opposite of each other and is found as an herbaceous woodland plant. It is one of many genera in the family Apiaceae, commonly known as the carrot family.

Yellow Bell

The yellow bell is a type of herbaceous perennial that can grow up to 3 feet tall. The flowers are found in a spike-like head and are creamy-white with purple stripes. They also have an unpleasant odor but attract many insects, including hummingbirds, bees, and honeybees. The leaves are pinnate and found oppositely on the stem. These flowers grow everywhere in North America and Europe where it's not too cold.

Yellow-Eyed Grass

The yellow-eyed grass is one of the most common flowers in the US. They are found in wet meadows and open woodlands. These plants can grow to just over a foot tall and produce fluffy clusters of sweet-smelling flowers. The flowers are usually found individually, however, in some cases, there will be larger clumps of them.

We hope this article has inspired you to start putting your favorite flowers in the ground and growing something beautiful. If you're looking for a little more inspiration, we put together some great flower names that all start with the letter Y.
