Aconitum

The aconite plant is also called wolf's bane. It has heart-shaped leaves and yellow flowers that have green stripes. This plant is native to the Mediterranean region but is now found in most temperate areas of the world. The aconite flower is commonly used as a homeopathic remedy for fevers, headaches, fluid retention, and chest congestion.
It is a tall perennial plant with bright green leaves that grow opposite each other atop its thick, fleshy root. When it flowers, it produces white blossoms with an unusual shape—they appear to be fused at the stem end—and are hairless with delicate green lines running across them. It is native to central and southern Europe and to the mountains of northern Africa. It has been naturalized in many places including the United States, where it is considered invasive. The plant grows wild in wet meadows and marshy conditions but also thrives as a garden escapee.
African Daisy

The African daisy is a tall plant that has bright yellow flowers with purple centers. It is native to Africa but can be found in many temperate regions of the world as a cultivated ornamental garden flower.
Agapanthus

Agapanthus is a plant that bears beautiful, bell-shaped flowers of various colors, including white and blue. It can be found in the wild in many parts of southern Africa and is also cultivated as an ornamental garden flower elsewhere in the world.
Ageratum Houstonianum

The ageratum houstonianum flower is a small-flowered blue annual plant that grows in open fields and along roadsides all over the United States. In fact, because it is not native to North America, this flower is considered invasive in some areas of the country. It has very tiny flowers that grow in clusters atop a long, slender stem. These blossoms have a delicate, sweet fragrance to them and are very popular with butterflies.
Alchemilla

The alchemilla herb is a perennial plant that bears small, white flowers. It thrives in temperate regions of Europe as well as in North America and has become naturalized all over the world. Its leaves have a bitter taste and its roots are used to make teas.
Allium Roseum

The Allium roseum flower is a perennial plant with pink flowers that are similar to those of the tulip. This plant has an oniony smell, which may lead you to believe that it belongs to the lily family, but it is actually in a group of flowering plants called alliums. There are about 400 species of allium plants.
Alstroemeria

The alstroemeria flower is a tropical plant that has large, colorful blossoms. The name of this flowering perennial comes from the botanist Carl Linnaeus. Alstroemerias are native to South America but have been naturalized in other areas of the world.
Alyssum

The alyssum flower is a small, white flowering plant that has been grown for centuries. It thrives in harsh, dry conditions and produces many blossoms all at once on short, sturdy stems. This plant was first cultivated in Europe but can now be found as an ornamental garden flower all over the world.
Amaranthus

Amaranth is a tall, leafy plant with vibrant colors that grow in temperate regions all over the world. It seems to thrive most in Asia and South America and also flourishes as an ornamental garden flower elsewhere.
Amaryllis

The amaryllis flower is a stemless perennial plant that grows in Africa and South America. It has long, narrow leaves that grow from the ground and tall stalks that produce brightly colored flowers. Its petals are usually red, pink, or white with purple streaks. The seed of this flower can be processed into an oil called copaiba.
Anemone

The anemone flower is a member of the buttercup family. It bears small blossoms that grow in clusters atop its thick, fleshy root. When it flowers, it produces white blossoms with an unusual shape—they appear to be fused at the stem end—and are hairless with delicate green lines running across them. It is hardy in most temperate regions of the world and grows wild in many places, including the United States.
Angelonia

Angelonia flowers are a small, soft-white flowering plant with vines that grow wild in Africa and the United States. The roots of this herb contain chemicals that have been used to make medicine for more than 3,000 years. Angelonia is also cultivated as an ornamental garden flower.
Anthurium

The anthurium flower is a spiny plant with large, colorful blossoms that grow in the tropics. The stem of this ornamental garden flower bears deep green leaves and grows thick clusters of flowers at its top. These blossoms are usually red, pink, or white with purple streaks and have a very strong scent to them. Anthuriums thrive in warm, moist environments.
Antirrhinum Majus

The common snapdragon flower is a tall, flowering plant that has been cultivated all over the world for more than 2,000 years. It has long stems and brightly colored blossoms that grow in clusters at its top. The name of this ornamental garden flower comes from the Greek word "antirrhinum," which means "like a dragon's snout." The snapdragon is a well-known medicinal herb as well.
Aquilegia

The aquilegia flower is a wild flower that grows in North America. It flourishes near streams and ponds, where its long stems can get access to plenty of water. This wildflower produces vibrant red flowers with black spots on the petals. The common name for this plant comes from an ancient Roman myth about a woman named Aquila, who was turned into a beautiful bird.
Asclepias Syriaca

Asclepias syriaca is a flowering plant that thrives in the far north and south of the world. The flowers of this herb are usually white, pink, or purple with green streaks running through them. This perennial herb also grows wild in North America. The stem of this ornamental garden flower bears short leaves at its base and grows tall clusters of flowers at its top. It can grow to be 6 feet tall and produces one flower per stem. The leaves and flowers of this herb are edible, but should not be consumed in large amounts.
Aster

The aster flower is a flowering plant that bears small, white blossoms with yellow centers. It flourishes in North America and Europe and grows wild all over the world. It has been cultivated for many years as an ornamental garden flower that can be grown indoors or outdoors.
Astilbe

Astilbe flowers are a flowering plant that grows across the world. The stems of this herb bear long, narrow leaves and grow tall stalks with brightly colored flowers at their tops. This ornamental garden flower is available in many different colors and has been used as an important part of many traditional medicines for thousands of years.

Astrantia major is a flowering plant that bears white, pink, or purple blossoms. The stem of this herb has small, green leaves on it and grows tall clusters of flowers at its top. This ornamental garden flower flourishes in the far north and south and grows wild all over the world. It can grow to be 6 feet tall. The leaves and flowers of this herb are edible, but should not be consumed in large amounts.
Aubrieta Deltoidea

Aubrieta Deltoidea is a flowering plant that grows in North America. It flourishes near streams and wetlands where it can get plenty of water. This wildflower produces vibrant pink blossoms with green streaks on them. The common name for this plant comes from the Latin words "auber," which means "to change color," and "recedere," which means "to retreat."
