Flowers That Start With The Letter J

If you're looking for flowers that start with the letter J, this blog post is perfect for you! I've included a list of some great flowers below so take a look and see which ones you like.

Jaborosa

Jaborosa

Jaborosa has to be my favorite flower name. It comes from the word 'jaborose' which is actually a Spanish word meaning jasmine. That's so cool! I wish English had more loanwords like that because they're lovely to say and often very expressive. As for the Jaborosa flower itself, it's a gorgeous purple passionflower and is native to Florida. It grows very easily in the moist soil of the area so it's really evolved to be as perfect for that environment as possible!

Jacob's Ladder

Jacob's Ladder

Jacob's ladder is more commonly known as Polemonium (spreading Jacob's ladder) or Erythronium. It's native to North America, Europe and Asia so it's quite a widespread flower that should grow well in most gardens. It generally grows from 6-18 inches tall so it's not the biggest plant but you can make it bigger by pruning. It grows from bulbs so you'll have to dig them up and store them for the winter.

Jamesia Americana

Jamesia Americana

Jamesia Americana is a flower native to North America. It's found mostly in the east of the country but also in the north states. You can find it growing in wet fields and sandy areas as well as dry woods, roadsides and pastures. This plant is particularly unique to other plants because its flowers are radially symmetrical!

Jasmine

Jasmine

Jasmine is one of the most popular flowers for people to grow in their garden. It's a very beautiful flower that has a sweet scent as well as lovely white petals and yellow stamens. Jasmine comes from Asia and it was named after princess Jasmin. There are many different species of this shrub so if you're interested in it you should definitely research which ones are best for your area and the sort of climate you have.

Jonquil

Jonquil

Jonquil is a flower that's native to South America but it has been brought around the world and even named after it! It was brought up into North America specifically for its namesake, Jonquille. This flower grows best in sandy soil where there's plenty of sun and warmth. If you have too much or too little of either then the plant may not thrive as well.

There are quite a few flowers that start with the letter J. Do you grow any of them in your flower garden? Maybe consider adding some to your backyard this year so they can brighten up those long, dreary winter days. Let us know what types of flowers you grow in the comments below!
